For the past several months, I've been working on music for the movie August Evening by Chris Eska. It premiered at the LA Film Festival, was bought by Maya Releasing, and also won the prize for Best Narrative Feature. To top it off, it got a great review in The Hollywood Reporter. Keep an eye out for it in theatres this fall. Also, check out Chris's previous film, Doki Doki.

FLUIDITIES IS NOW AVAILABLE!!!
Fluidities is not your usual double CD, but rather an open ended project designed to generate many unique musical collaborations. The tracks on these two discs were designed so that any track on one CD could be combined with any track from the other CD to create a hybrid piece. In fact, any two tracks on Fluidities can be played together to create new composite tracks that are, in effect, virtual collaborations between artists who may have never recorded together.
Fluidities features eleven tracks by Jonathan Hughes (including collaborations with M. Bentley, Hussalonia, Naryan Padmanabha, and David Mussen) as well as eleven tracks by some of the most prominent names in the electronic music scene, including Tetsu Inoue, Ian Boddy, High Skies (Mat Jarvis), Saul Stokes, Susanne Brokesch, ATOI/Seofon, dreamSTATE, Interstitial, Jussi & Jaana Vaisanen, Dean Santomieri, and Michael Bentley/eM. You can find out more about the disc, check out sound clips, and order it here.

Opaline's new CD, Ghosts of Dust and Tar is now available. Jonathan played bass, guitar, keyboards, and produced the album. He's joined by Alex Lynne on vocals and David Mussen (who wrote all the songs) on acoustic guitar. Opaline's music blends atmospheric country with modern electronics. It wil most likely please fans of Emmylou Harris, Bjørk, Garbage, and Daniel Lanois. Check out soundclips at www.opalinemusic.com.

Rob Falgiano's new CD, Thing I Used to Know is now available. I play bass on half the tracks and guitar and keyboards on several others. This double disc features an all-star cast of musicians and is, as artvoice called, it "daring and delicately understated."

In April, Michael Bentley, Dean Santomieri, and I played the Ambient Ping in Toronto (this was the final date of our Monsters of Ambient tour that took the northeast by storm). Michael joined me at the end of his set for an improvised duet. You can download a clip of it here: toronto_1.mp3.

Trillium has been released!!! Trillium is my first full release for The
Foundry/Hypnos. The
pieces on this album, all experiments with the 3/4 time signature, bring
together different sound sources and styles into a unique and compelling
collection of drifting ambience. You can find out more about Trillium (and buy it, of course) at the Hypnos
Store. You can download excerpts from Trillium (as

My track "Viscous Space" can be found on 360°,
the latest Foundry/Hypnos title. This compilation has as its center point
a story fragment, a series of episodes taking the listener through an
enigmatic arc, an arc becoming a circle, an arc of 360°. Tracks draw
on a variety of electronic music flavours, from ambient electronica to
microsound and glitch. Contributors to 360° are, in order of appearance: Rhomb (releases
on The Foundry and Archipelago imprint), eM (releases on The Foundry, Archipelago and Fallt), Jonathan Hughes (formerly
Subspace with release on Sunburst Fifty), High
Skies (Mat Jarvis, formerly Gas on Emit), Mark
Van Hoen with Seofon (Mark Van Hoen has released work as
Locust and under his own name on Touch and Apollo; Seofon is a member of Ambient Temple of Imagination as well as a solo artist), Sketch (releases
on Apollo and on End of Hum), Thermal (releases on his own Boxman label and Archipelago imprint), and Kim
Cascone (releases on Ritornell and Digital Narcis among many others).
Quite a range of talented artists all contributing tracks recorded specially
for this compilation!
Audio samples of every track are available on the 360° page, so take a listen! 360° is now available for purchase from Hypnos, The Foundry, and Soleilmoon.
